Ella French
Linda Zabors
Ella French was a Chicago Police officer who died in the line of duty after she and another officer were fired upon by suspects during a traffic stop. Her fellow officer was critically wounded. The shooter was caught and sentenced to life in prison without parole.
She had served the Chicago Police Department for three years. Officer French was a member of the Community Safety Team for the Chicago Police Department and had previously been a corrections officer.
Ella was described as a person of great integrity and great enthusiasm by friends, family, and colleagues. She had recently purchased a home in the Parkview neithborhood after living several years in the Galewood neighborhood.
With the support of donors and family members the Ella French Scholarship program was established to benefit the children of current or retired employees of the Chicago Police Department.
